|
|
I have a new set of rods that have no markings or part numbers that would suggest a brand name. They do have arp style bolts with the name “scat” stamped on the top of the head of the bolt.
I have done some searching of different brands of rods to try to find one that looks like mine. So far they look just like Scat’s I-beams w/ arp bolts .
Any suggestions on how to identify these rods?
Thanks! |

A picture would go a long way toward ID-ing them.

They are either scat rods
or chinese imitations of scat rods that happen to have scat bolts, which, could happen. |

If they are scat imitations would they still be good to use? I was thinking of using them in my stroker build for my’63 bug. It will be mostly all street driven. |

If they're the correct length, why not use them? Even stock german connecting rods are strong as hell and I wouldn't overlook them for a super spirited street driven motor. My 2180 had stock I-beams and I drove the hell out of that 155hp motor. When it was refreshed, I ordered rebuilt rods from Rimco and used those.
BTW, is Rimco known as FAT now? In Santa Fe Springs? I did not know this until just now.. |

Ron and Greg retired and sold it to Rimco about 3 or 4 years ago. The great fear was that the FAT legacy would go down the drain with Rimco running things (Rimco have had their share of consumer complaints). I haven't bought any FAT parts since that deal, but I've NEVER used any Rimco services, so I can't comment either way on the outcome. There's a thread around here about it. |
