Has anyone acquired a full set of these for a syncro and have any feedback on them? How do they compare to stock or OME? Paired with what springs? _________________ She's built like a steakhouse, but she handles like a bistro! |

After a few talks with Steven Schwenk (The Spring Master) I decided on his "lift" springs and 16" Bilstein B6. The only difference between the 14" and 16" is that the 16" is valved a little stiffer. This works well for our Westy Syncro with a ton of added weight but if you have a tin top, may want to go with the 14". With that said, I haven't installed them yet so I really don't know anything. But, I will take Steve's advice over just about anyones. And, his preference for our setup was to go with the B6 over OME. Prior to talking with Steve, I was pretty set on OME but he convinced me that the Bilstein B6's matched with his Springs will be the better setup. Albeit, slightly more expensive. |

Did Steve comment at all on the difference between 16" B6 shocks and OMEs?
I have Schwenk springs and OMEs on a Westy Syncro H6 @5100 lbs and unless I add 900 more lbs of stuff the setup is still much too stiff. I want something a lot less harsh than that, not just a little.
Also, where are people actually buying these? _________________ She's built like a steakhouse, but she handles like a bistro! |

You can buy both Bilstein and OME from Steve himself. I'm not sure the 16" B6's are going to give you a "softer" ride on road than OME but may perform better on washboards etc. I would call Steve and hear his thoughts on the two.

I have the Bilsteins 16" version. But then I have a 16" hightop. They seem pretty good. Washboard roads are a bit harsh, but I think that's mainly because of the road surface! I just air down and take it easy. _________________ '69 Squareback RIP

Sounds like I want the 14" then, I and my cabinetry are done with the harsh ride.
Looks like Steve is sold out of all Bilsteins, any other retailers out there? _________________ She's built like a steakhouse, but she handles like a bistro! |

I just picked up a pair of 16"s... should be here Tuesday next week along with Steve's D/P springs. We'll see how this all goes soon enough! Thanks all!

Hi,
I’ve got them on my Westified Syncro tin top. 215/75 15 yoko go15 ats. Stock springs
Never bother to air down. Tires around 42-44 psi.
Lots of logging road travel.
The van settles down and rides nicely on Hwy when loaded. Unladen it’s on the harsh side. It’s not bad harsh, but that’s a personal judgement.
Van handles whoop-dee-do , there goes the dash clutter, ups and down found on logging roads better much much better m than stock shocks.
On the ugly hard logging roads , and washboard, it’s better but it’s no body on frame , bushing isolated, f250 ride.
I like the shocks, like the spring perch on retaining ring . I added spacer there.
