Again, it has been about a month and a half, and I understand it is still for sale. Has anybody seen this VW in person? I can see by the pictures its bad places, carpet showing through and rough cuts. What is it worth? Forget SEMA and Kevins handling of it. Just tell me what it is worth. |

My father told me: To buy it, you are alone... to sell you have to be with 2. _________________ Zelensis, glassfibre body made in Belgium , disigned and built on a VW platform About 25 body's built.

I like it… I don’t like it enough to pay $100k for it. |

For the sake of discussion, what's a ballpark figure for a perfectly restored three fold rag 51? My observations are that even a nicely done custom car will rarely bring more $$ than the same car restored to original. _________________ modok wrote:

For a restoration done correctly, and using genuine parts, I would say ~ 70k.
That same car modified correctly from a California perspective, ~ 85k. _________________ CH³NO²

I would agree with that.
Unfortunately it would probably cost well over 40-50 to put it anywhere close to stock, or even a DKP level cali build. So it would have to go for peanuts to be a viable restoration candidate. So it either gets sold to someone that doesn't know what it really is, or what they want (which does happen quite often, especially at auction), or it get parted out (which is often the only way to get costs back out of a high dollar custom build.) _________________ modok wrote:

there is a third option. someone likes the custom job and buys the car, knowing exactly what it is wih no intention of making it "stock". clearly the sema judges enjoyed the car. its not unreasonable that others might enjoy it too. _________________ november 1952 ragtop
