Hi Gang,
I'm in the process of my first engine build. AA 80mm p&c with the WW Okrasa kit.
What would be the correct spark plugs? W8A, W8AC, something else?
Thanks |

its a 14mm 1/2 reach standard plug, I like NGK, I think their quality control is a little better than bosch these days _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

What I use in my Okrasa engine builds are ORIGINAL 145 T1 - W8AC and more importanly, "Made in Western Germany" text on the (YELLOW) box. I've had problems with "NEW" BOSCH (blue box) marked plugs now made in ROMANIA!? I've had customers experience the same problems with those Romanian boxed plugs also. They are "hit/miss" and if you don't know how to diagnose a bad running engine due to bad/new plugs, you are going to be going in circles trying to figure out what is the problem. I find those ORIGINAL / NOS BOSCH plugs on eBay and buy 'em up. They are still available.....you just got to search the internet.
Again....key words to find on the box, "MADE IN GERMANY" and NOT Made in Romania nor Brazil

I'd run old German Bosch W8AC or new NGK BP6HS. |
Be careful of projector tips, on a tight deck they can hit the piston _________________ Glenn

NGKs are always good. Even the new ones. At least that's been my experience. They are made in Japan high quality plugs.
Bosch and other brands I gave up on a while ago. I simply cross reference the correct NGK part number for whatever application and just use that. I stock up on boxes of 10 from Rockauto for dirt cheap. _________________ 1967 Bug ( the daily rod )

Bosch plugs:
-W145T1 and W8A are the same, the latter is just a later part number for the same. W8AC for copper core (..P platinum, ..S silver ..) Non projected tip
-W145T35 and W8B are the same. W8BC for copper core. Projected tip (might not work for okrasa)
WR.. for resistor plug
At least the when the copper core super plugs came (Still yellow box) they could also be made in India (probably South America as well?).
Back in the day okrasa and stock 36hp used the "cold" W225T1/W5A plug, but today they are considered to cold for most normal use.

Has anyone ever used Champion L87Y plugs. I know they are projected electrode plugs. Back in the '70s I ran a 1500 Okrasa engine with type three 1500 domed pistons. I used the Champion L87Y plugs with no problems. It ran great for the time in our VW world. Cheers _________________ '63 OG 117 Herbie Replica

Bosch extended tip (T35 or B, as in W145T35, W8B or W8BC)
VS
Bosch non extended tip (T1 or A, as in W145T1, W8A or W8AC)
In WW okrasa head
Not the best "measurement" but as comparison. |

Similar to what I think Frederik is showing in his pictures, when I mocked up my WW Okrasa heads it seemed that the piston would hit the lands in the combustion chamber before it would be able to contact an extended tip plug.(BP5HS) |
With how deep the combustion chamber is on these heads I like the idea of an extended tip. I ran them on my big bore-kitted 36 that was in my 58 and not that it seems to make a terribly large difference, I thought they seemed to work well.
You'd have to flycut out a lot of material to make them come close to hitting the piston. _________________ 73 super beetle thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=649622 Back on the Road!

If you have the space for prolongued electrode, it is the better choice, as it ignite 1-3% more fuel mix, since the spark is nearer center of combustion chamber.
Dont have Okrasa heads, but I use NGK BP5HS or the similar Denso W16FP-U. _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...

I tried a variety of plugs - new W8AC, used German W8AC, NGK B5HS and NGK B6HS. The NGK B5HS worked the best for me. WW okrasa kit, WW cam and crank with a VJ4BR25 distributor.
