consider that the sides of pipe clamps you selected will bash what ever is sliding around your rack. even if just while putting it up there before tying down....plus it costs you 2"? of usable width?

maybe something like this as an alternate?

I prefer the pvc insert so it’s not metal on metal. Nothing will ever be loose sliding around

Oh, so the bottom U clamp is welded to the cross bar and that's what holds the water reservoir in place?

I'm with vanis13 and think moving the side bolt out of the way might have some qualities.

even a complete strap that goes all the way around...kinda like what you have but with the bolt only on the one rail side and the inside side just band. the PVC insert is possible in all those options

Cool, rack looks good. Any idea how much it weighs? I've often considered what's the total weight I'd feel comfortable with on the roof. 300 to 400 lbs? Is 400 ridiculous? What's a loaded westy roof plus rocket boxes weigh?

I calculated around 200lbs just for the rack. My wife and I could pretty easily set it on top. Now with the gussets, solar and water tank. May be closer to 300. So yeah when it’s loaded I could see that 400lbs range.
