My wife picked up a '74 Beetle recently and wants to go with a class 11 style build. The way it sits right now it looks to be slightly lifted in the rear with coil over shocks, stock height in the front and sitting on 185/70R14 in the front and 225/70R14 in the rear. I might be wrong and the front does have a little lift but everything looks to be original. She wants to keep the 14 inch wheels that are on the bug which is limiting tire options and the largest I can find is 27x8.5R14 which is fine for the rear since the 225/70 is a half inch smaller and a half inch wider.
All I can find for a front end lift are 3" spindles which I think is going to give me more lift than I need. So I'm thinking of just keeping it stock height in the front. My question though is what is the largest I could squeeze up front? I would like to have matching sizes front and back but I'm pretty sure a 27x8.5 will not fit,but it looks like I have room for something bigger than what is on there.

Can have the beam turned that will give a bit more variability. (Or is that where the supposed lift came from?)
I’ve seen 2.5” spindles.
If go too tall of a tire, I suspect that the fenders will interfere, but they can always be trimmed. _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look
