My favorites are when they are so confident and then i crush them by telling them what it's actually worth.
Being relatively young (36 and I'm told I look younger) for the age of the Bus, I get so many people telling me "You don't know what you have!" That annoys the hell out of me. I literally learned to read with Auto Traders, Hot VWs and VW Trends before I even started kindergarten, believe me, I know way more about what I have than you ever will. _________________ All he needed was a wheel in his hand and four on the road.

I have had reverse notes left on my cars. One was that if I was interested on some FREE parts, to just go pick them up from their garage. Just to make sure I locked the gate after I left. The other was from someone who became one of my best VW friends. He left me a note stating he had NOS manuals for sale. the rest is history. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.
I recycle old cars and parts, other than when I rot, that's as Green as I am going to get.
Thanks to my Tesla driving neighbors, I feel more relaxed driving my SUBURBAN and old VW's.

Nearly a windscreen note...
I took my SC to work not long after I got it and parked it in the office car park.
I came back to my desk later that morning and found a stranger's business card stuck in my keyboard. One of my team had left it there. He'd been parking his car and the guy had got his attention, scribbled a note on the back of his business card and asked him to 'give it to the VW guy'.
It basically said that if I needed hub caps (the truck was missing one) to give him a call as he had loads (not common round here).
I didn't bother because I had the cap (it was off because the clips were broken).
A couple of years later I lost a cap and couldn't find the damned business card. Had to buy some on ebay. _________________ Andy

A few days ago I'm driving my single cab and I was looking straight ahead Fahrvergnugening my ass off. A guy and his daughter drives alongside and I keep looking straight ahead. We get to a red light, at this point I'm ignoring him. finally he yells and I open the window. "You want to get rid of that thing!" I get that expression on my face and shout back "I've owned this for over 30 years, No" It is one of those sentimental VW's.
At In-N-Out burger, on my way back from my first Shasta trip a guy stops me in the parking lot and says, "What is that", I tell him its a VW Single Cab, He asks, "Is it for sale?"
At this point I follow the John Lennon rule, just keep walking, never stop walking. However, if you start talking about your VW we will have a great 10-15 minute conversation |

Ya, the yelling is annoying. I interpret it as them just being excited and saying "nice bus!". Often people aren't good at putting things into words. An offer to buy is generally paraphrasing "I like your ride". Lots of people often haven't seen one of these in the wild, in real life, in ages. It can hit them with emotion.
Just say 'thanks', or 'right on!' smile and wave.

Yes, I've heard that too.

Here's what you do...
Ask them how much they'll give you.
When they make their low-ball offer say "Deal!"
Then they'll think they bid too high and will disappear.
If they do show up (no chance) say you changed your mind. _________________ Bus Motor Build

I still get the occasional note- and I never mind it because most of my VWs became mine after 'cold calls' of some sort. If the note's demeaning, it goes in the trash but if it's written like I write mine then I save it.
People hollering- I never give an ounce of regard.
If a dude starts off by saying, "If you're not going to fix that rust- sell it to me" or the like, it's easy to kick them to the curb around here. For some reason Boise is behind the rest of the world with standards of simple candor.
A good friend and I ran to an estate sale in my ragtop bug, I walked out to find some middle age cat (I'm 53) sniffing all around it- asking about it, can he sit in it, etc, then started picking it apart. I asked him what's his gig and he finally asked how much? I said it's not for sale and he said, you've got a sale sign right on the hood! Here's the hood: _________________
