I recently changed my exhaust from an EMPI 4/1 to a Vintage Speed Sport muffler. I wanted to be able to compare the two exhaust system sounds.

I have no GoPro so, I used the Voice Memo app on my ipad. Centered on the tailpipe, 5' back and 5' to the side, and on top of a 4' ladder.

Recordings were made of both systems, cold starts, plus a recording of a stock Porsche 912 muffler. Using the ear buds or similar you can get a real nice representation of what your engine sounds like.

The 4/1 sounded deeper and more rumble than the others. The VS unit sounded like a cross between the Porsche muffler and the 4/1 while the Porsche sounded lighter, tighter. These are my observations
