No Dan,
That video is one I made a few years ago. That engine was sold to a Samba member on the east coast. Thank God it's not the same motor

A deposit was made today with GEMVW to build a new 1800 long block. Type 1 conversion. Almost all of the engine parts will be new like case, pistons, cam etc. German engine tin and T2 German heater boxes used. Hope to have Tim build a Solex 34pict-3 and bill to build a 205q distributor. Lead time is 6 weeks I think. Conversion tin will come from creative car craft unless some European tin pops up. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

Sounds great. Looks like he will get a quality product put together by a great team of mechanics.
And folks....Gary and Telford and Robbie have all worked on our bus. I have the highest admiration and appreciation of their skills. They have also been completely honest with me. _________________ Larry in OB

No endorsement fee requested or desired. The primary reason we still have our bus is that people like you and Telford and Robbie are available to do all the work that I no longer can do or wish to do. Glad I could help out Ryan (?) and his nice puppy. _________________ Larry in OB

Update:
The new engine is built.
Specs:
1800 longblock from Jeff Gervaise at GEMVW. New case
74mm crank
88 thick wall cylinders
Cheater cam with lifters
Bosch 205Q DVDA from Bill Fowler at Sparxwerks
German Pierburg fuel pump from Sparxwerks
Solex 34PICT-3 with enlarged venturi, jets, throttle positioner, damper from Tim at Volkzbitz
1 1/2 quart deep sump from CB Performance
Type 2 heater boxes
Type 2 stock exhaust
Conversion tin from CIP1
Used but tested Bosch alternator
Thermostatic flaps installed but soldered into open position
Hoover bit
Full flow oil system
Telford and I are about an hour away from running the engine on my stand. It's already been test run and broken in at GEMVW before delivery. Still waiting for a fuel pipe and pulley tin to arrive from The Busco. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

The engine ran today on my stand. We tested the original starter and it failed. Telford tore it down and worked his magic. Starter now works fine on the test stand.

"Magic" includes:
- completely disassemble
- sand commutator with 320 w/d sandpaper
- clean commutator slots with small tool
- wash commutator with MEK
- inspect brushes. If I had some replacements, I would have installed them just on GP. Existing brushes on the short side, but fully serviceable. Note: it's a two brush starter.
- cleaned brush holder plate with MEK
- greased front bushing and reassembled
- disassembled starter solenoid, unsoldering internal wire connections
- buffed main contacts and crossbar with wire pencil wheel on Dremel tool
- buffed all other electrical connections with Dremel until shiny
- lightly lubed solenoid plunger
- reassembled solenoid, resoldered solenoid wire connections (60/40 rosin-cored solder)
- reassembled throwout fork into housing with a little grease
- reinstalled solenoid with a touch of grease at fork attachment
There was nothing really wrong with the starter, other than it was just dirty, and needed a little TLC. Not a full rebuild - more of a field repair. Seems to work nicely, however. _________________ '71 panel, now with FI
