I have seen from a number of suppliers that new ignition distributors are available for Vanagons from 1986-1991 (2.1L). Does anyone know if these can be fitted some how to a 1983-1985 (1.9L) Vanagon? These units don't appear to be available.

Vanagain has an option.

At this point my distributor is fine. It's just about the only thing that hasn't been replaced on my engine since I bought it. If I ever need to replace it I see that it might be an issue since it is a 1.9. The 2.1 distributors appear to be available so I was just wondering if one of these could be adjusted to work in a 1.9. I do see now that VanAgain might be a source if needed.

The way products vanish, I would be buying that Hall unit kit today if you think you might someday want one.

The 1.9 distributor is a vacuum and mechanical advance distributor, whereas the 2.1 has no advance features at all, the advance being supplied electronically by the ECU.
