Blimey, shows there are still some to be found...
no idea on the value of a 49 motor, depends on condition and what is there/missing, but you won't have difficulty moving it on. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

if the interior paint colours are original (steering wheel, seat frames etc) that's an interesting grey to note in the interior colours sticky. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

Fuel tank is correct.
While that style is commonly referred to as a "zwitter tank" it was introduced mid-1952

It seems like Volkswagen had a lot of "transition details" in late 1952 production. My ex-11G was built the last week of August and lacked a number of details people usually associate with split windows. Just off the top of my head:
-narrow neck fuel tank
-no transmission access panel behind the rear seat
-wiring was PVC, not cloth wrapped
per Progressive Refinements:
"29 July 52 Chassis no. 1-374199 Tank filler neck: Now: 60mm dia. Formerly 100mm dia"
I was also told that the 60mm "narrow neck" tank has two varieties: the earlier style does not have the drip indent around the fuel neck, and the style was incorporated into later tanks. I have no idea when this change was made, if someone here knows please post up.

Thanks guys:)
Yes the late 52’s had a few strange options which is pretty cool.
Loving the car and cant wait to get a newer engine and gearbox in it. |

I can understand wanting a later engine and gearbox, but I wouldn't br quick to sell what it already has, especially if numbers match!
Interesting thet the hand crank hole was welded shut. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Well the car is a 52 and the engine a 49 so its not a matching. The gearbox i will save for later.
Seriously considering sending it off for a restoration🤔 But for next year im just gonna drive it with the newer drivetrain i think. |
