I started to clean underside
cargo floors will need replacement .mostly in bad condition
with mouse living there for more then 30 years
but front and , rear end, main chassis , wheel arches etc are very solid for a BD bus generally

Very SOLID, you say ?????
that is MINT !
wow....just WOW ! congratulations.
please do not 'restore', repaint or sandblast that undercarriage. it is in incredible original shape and paint and may only need a light cleaning and light wax. I wonder how bad the cargo floors really are. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

Wow, that is nice, especially the underneath.
I'm surprised by how much wear the gas pedal has since you said:

How many miles are on the Bus? I was thinking under 100,000km because of the outside condition and limited usage _________________ How to Post Photos

Hello Everett
I was surprised about gas pedal too because it looks like real low milleage car - ir was in traffic only from 54 to 66 ..last technical check stamp in small papers I have with car is from 64
I do not want to learn eagle to fly
but you can see round hole under gas pedal on floor
gas pedal hole was rotten from under ..I removed part of rotten thin metal bent down
my theory is :
somebody removed big metal shielding whole front from road mess
I have ir with car ..it was inside
and water was squirting from road through hole - made for easy access to greasing nipple .I guess it is originally from factory and
moisture slowly eaten gas pedal from under
wil check ODO later ..I believe it was never turned over zeros |

splitface, I'm looking forward to hearing about the actual mileage as that peddle hole is odd. Also the work by the PO on that floor is interesting, can we see a pic of that floor section most especially the edge where it fits into the floor? I’m fascinated. Supper happy you will keep her paint patina please post your waxing method/brand when you get to that.
What a stunning Barndoor bus it would be nice to see either of these shots as your icon
Keep up the good work, Linda

I have had 3x 1954 and 1 1953 now, and all of them had the same wear on the gas pedal. I would think it is because of the awkward position the spoon pedal is, nearly perpendicular to the floor and parallel to the vehicle axes, while the driver's foot needs to be shifted to the right to reach it. Check out how they changed the position of the gas pedal on post 55 buses, and it's clear to see how the original BD spoon pedal would be worn off to one side by the drivers shoe. it's also stamped from thin sheetmetal. maybe the Kindergartenfreunde had nailed marching boots.... _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

I would agee but as mentioned half of hole was metal rotten from underside
Still bent down ..that is why i thought it could be because of hole for greasing nipple access and mosture from road, it can be even.combination of both factors |

Dove blue kombis all got pinstripes until the end of the 1958 model year. They got one pinstripe. It was silverwhite like the rims and the white on the bumper. You can see where it was by looking on your kombi.
Standard microbuses all got pinstripes until the end of the 1958 model year. They got two pinstripes. The upper bus color below the beltline color split and the lower bus color above the beltine color split.
No other model or year or color got pinstripes from the VW factory.
The pinstripes were hand painted. _________________ .
