Thanks for the input guys. Much appreciated. FWIW I think I'm gonna stick with the 1.00 or 1.04 4th gear for now. I won't be doing much freeway driving in the buggy. I's supposed to be a "fun" car and not a long distance freeway commuter. If I find it's just intolerable I can go to taller tires like the 275/60s mentioned earlier.

Clonebug & Mike, I have a turbo in the works, and this motor was built with the internals to take it with an adjustment in compression. I have asked my trans builder to keep this in mind when building the trans.

Be safe fellas.

Mike, you have proven to be very insightful, indeed. As much as I love my N/A buggy... I have never had enough of ANYTHING.... Confused Food? yes please. Beer or other adult beverage, again... yes please Embarassed Don't we have enough guns in the safe yet??? No darling... no we don't!

Are you seeing where this is going? The ability to add horsepower just by turning a screw is VERY appealing right now. Twisted Evil

The current motor was built with forged internals, H-beam rods etc. etc.
I'm just now starting the research phase of adding a turbo to the 2276. "About 8:1 compression and as much boost as I deem necessary to make me grin! Very Happy I expect to contact RAD designs for one of his "starter" kits and go from there

Stay tuned!

So on Friday last week, I went down to see Rodney at RAD designs. He seems like a knowledgeable, and capable resource for my project. I collected my new 3071 turbo and headed home before the weekend traffic started... Mad

I couldn't stand the urge any longer and pulled the hater-stinger off and offered up the "new-to-me" exhaust and new turbo Cool

I'm ecstatic to say the least! At this point the only interference was with one of the full flow fittings to the new exhaust. Easy enough work-around I expect!... Oh, AND the existing dump pipe is Twisted Evil too small for the turbo, as is the Weber intake manifold! Cool

Happy new year everyone!

It appears that you're going to have a draw through turbo system on your buggy. Sweet!

What carb/EFI system do you intend on using for this build?

Has your trans been built to withstand the added torque that is sure to break a lessor trans build?

Yes Sir! Draw through this time. The collection of parts I bought had a Weber DCOE 45 with it. My goal is to use that, this time. I've read that they can be difficult and bothersome to tune, so I will keep the Ron Lummus 4BBL idea for next time, if the DCOE proves to be too difficult.

The trans has indeed been built expecting to deal with a big blown motor. It was assembled with the usual goodies including a rhino case & Empi race axles.

Thanks for looking!
