Greetings, I am looking for the correct jack for my 67 beetle. However, I have some doubts regarding the base of the correct jack. The style shown here for 1965-1969 has a domed base, however the pictures from the instructions manual show a grooved base like the one showed here to be from 1972-1979.

Also, a quick look through some manuals showed me that the grooved base was used from 1965-1967, with the domed base returning from 1968 onwards. I have heard that using pictures from the manuals as a reference is highly unreliable, but I find them to help me this time since I know for sure the picture in the 67 manual is of a 67, and the one shown for 68 is correct.

Summarizing everything, Should the 1967 beetle have a domed base like the older jacks or should it have a grooved base?

I have two ‘67 beetle convertibles. Both had the dome shaped end like the blue one. Some chance they were both swapped?

My dad’s 67 (Oct 66) has the scalloped one. I know it’s the original one because there is a picture of me using that jack to raise the car on Easter morning 1968.

Thanks to you two for the quick replies. At the moment I am seeing that 67s have two variations of jacks. For the time being, I am more inclined to go with the scalloped base jack. However, I still don’t understand why would VW revert back to using the old-style base after coming up with an improved version. Were there some issues with the scalloped base or am I getting things mixed up?

As VW had done in the past, they used up what was on hand while the new part was put into full production. VW was frugal, why pay to store the old ones when you could put them in new VW’s.

Oh, I see. Final verdict, I’ll order the jack from a guy that says the jack point for 67 should be cast and not stamped. As for the base, I’ll get whatever he has in stock, since I like more the looks of the domed base but the scalloped base is the new style. Thank you very much for helping with my doubts:)

My pleasure! Best of luck with your baby. Just FYI my jack point isn’t stamped, its cast. I say get which ever makes you happy. In the end that’s all that really matters. Happy holidays!

My newly aquired 67 has the scalloped version of jack. It has been sitting since 1991, which doesn't guarantee anything, except maybe that no one would change it in 1991 for any collector season, so it is more likely to be original.
