I added an arrow over top of what looks like the egr tube. Your plenum has a micro switch on it so I am not sure whether it is an earlier 75-76 engine, or whether it is orphaned, or whether that is used with an automatic. 76 1/2 and later manual trans engines don't have the micro switch.

The rod with the red marks looks as though it would line up with the EGR underneath.
It ends, well, I don’t know what that is. Looks as though it would maybe need a block or something if I remove it. _________________ 1976

that circle is the EGR. It goes to the metal shroud where it bolts. One the other side of the shroud there is the EGR filter that cools the inert exhaust gasses. Then the bottom of the filter bolts to the J-tube where your leak is. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Thank SGKent.
I am trying to locate the electric to the EGR. _________________ 1976

I sort of looks like your transplant engine may have a mechanical EGR, not the electric flying saucer. Follow that tube SGK circled and look for a small rectangle with a lever and rod that connects to the throttle arm. Like the thing in the top left of this pic (rod to throttle missing in pic):

It’s always been disconnected.
I only tried to connect it when it wasn’t starting months back. _________________ 1976

That's the EGR valve, disconnect the lever from the throttle end and leave it attached to the arm on the valve, secure it out of the way so it doesn't get caught in the throttle linkage. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Okay, it has never been clipped on except when it wouldn’t start and thought the disconnect was the problem, thus this old pic.
Coolio!
So leave the EGR pipe below alone?
And block the elbow, will that make the putt putt stop? _________________ 1976

Yes, although as WT's suggested maybe plug the end of the dangling pipe too, just in case that EGR valve is leaking a little why risk sucking up some road dust?. The dangling end won't need any high heat or pressure proof sealing, a blob of silicone RTV, or some other goo will do. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
