I'm doing a simple rebuild (just needed to re-seal the engine case) and in the gasket kit I got some very thick sump gaskets (like 1mm thick) instead of the usual paper gaskets. So the studs are too short.
I will order new gaskets, but I noticed not all studs stick out the same length. How much shall the studs be out? And do I use some kind of loctite to fix them in place (2 got out but the threads are good in the case).

How much studs stick out will be a combination of gasket thickness, sump plate thickness and just enough threads to adequately engage acorn nuts and not bottom out in acorn nuts....

Yes locktite can lock studs to correct length....

Thanks, Dale. I am right now in the garage measuring exactly that: thickness of gaskets, sump plate, depth of acorn nuts and how much the studs stick out... Never had this problem in 20 years with paper gaskets, and no oil drip.
