Just decked the case. Ready for case savers but can't find any 8mm studs for a 36 hp stock motor for sale anywhere on the internet.

Question: Don't use case savers or use the 10mm ones that fit the original studs? Opinions? Smile

Thanks

John

Why cant you shorten 8mm studs for 1600 based engines?

time serts and 10mm studs, or 1/2-13 OD case savers for 10mm studs would be what is commonly done.
I've never seen anybody do it but aftermarket 8mm studs would probably be close enough to work with thick washers. 10mm shorter right?
Would have to buy two sets or trade to get enough of the right lengths.

The head studs are 8mm chromoly that were 1/2" longer then stock 1600cc. Need 2 sets. I had to cut them down on both ends to make them the right length. the short studs are 150mm high strength studs from Grainger. Three stock length 1600cc studs in the middle for comparison. The nuts and washers are from belmetric. I used special 13mm nuts that are the four silver ones for the short studs. This was for my 36hp 74x83 okrasa build.
