Meanwhile back on topic pep boys will go to service and repair. It’s a good thing people need help and they’ll pay for for it.

I bought a battery from Pep Boys right around the start of covid (March 2020). After waiting 6 weeks I reached out and they said they were delayed due to covid. Maybe 6 months after that I tried again and they said they were unable to fulfill any rebates at this time.

I still haven't gotten it and don't expect to either

Our Pep Boys is now a car paint place.

We will paint any car for $99, but you have to remove the windows.

I have a friend that owns a Car Quest auto parts store.

He says business is BOOMING!

Anyway……

Changing the business model of Pep Boys reminds me of the path many old established retail chains have taken.
I’m thinking, Sears, KMart, Montgomery Wards, A&P, etc.

We have a near by Pep Boys with the “speed shop” option. They have rims, drag radials, poly bushings, flowmasters……. Inventory hasn’t been restocked in a while. It’s no longer a world where a speed shop would sell a few small block Chevy roller timing chains and performer intakes a week.

Bring back Perry Drugs. They had more auto parts than medicine.

Don't worry NAPA will still lie to you, hand over known garbage parts, hassle you about returns and generally make life miserable. I did not deal much with PB but they seemed OK with good prices.

Pep Boys problem was their false slogan "Everything but gas" unless you consider "everything" to consist of a variety of air fresheners and wiper blades. Good riddance!
