I installed a thrid brake light and modded my to add a running/brake light in the empty (US spec) socket. Came out nice. But while testing the instal I noticed that the brake lights dont come on until the pedal is pressed fairly hard.
I'm assuming that the switches are wearing out. I have ordered a few non-pressured swithces to attemp to add/mod as documented here but wondering;
If the pressure swithes are new do they activate the brakes sooner/better. If that is the case I could just repace the stock pressure switch. I am using all LED lights so perhaps a new pressure switch would hold up better. |

I have found vanagon brake lights to be sluggish. They won’t activate until enough pressure is generated by your foot and the master cylinder. So sluggish for our TDI powered van, I installed a mechanical pedal switch.
New pressure switches may improve the reaction time, but I don’t know. Report your findings. _________________ ☮️ |

Saw these from RJES. Would they work as a brake pedal position switch?
No prices listed, not sure if still available. His site is a bit flaky.

Probably cobble something together locally and a scrap of metal. The bracket and switch pictured look ready to go though. _________________ ☮️ |

well, i assumed and it bit me again. with the GoWesty recent sale, i bought their cruise control bracket and switch thinking it would make a great "light touch" brake light activator as i do not like the pedal pressure necessary to activate the OE switches mounted on the master cylinder. the switch and bracket were a little spendy but i thought it would save me some messing around.
the GW switch is N.O.-- Normally Open. when the switch closes, it has continuity. this is the opposite of what i needed to parallel the brake circuit, essentially putting a third switch in line, any of which activate the brake lights. parts stash to the rescue, i install a very nice made in USA OMRON microswitch with a lever. has contacts for both N.O. and N.C., used the N.C. contacts to get the proper logic. the Omron switch has a nicer feel, very crisp off/on action and i'm happy with the install even if i only bought an expensive bracket. brake lights come on with just a tiny touch of the pedal as well as cancels the cruise.
