I refurbished the backsides of my b'63 bug bumpers with Masterseries silver primer a couple years ago and did this piece as well, and I cannot for the life of me figure out where this goes. The curvature seems to fit the inside of the rear bumper, and the slots kind of line up with where bolts come through, but I'm not sure that seems right. The tube's cross section is square or rectangular.
Anyone have an idea? _________________ "He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose."

Thanks for the reply. Those in your picture really look the same as what I've got. I'm trying to picture where it goes on my more traditional bumper with over-riders. And if it's supposed to stand off as it does in your picture... I'm assuming the blade the bar is connected to in your picture is the bumper? I'm ignorant here, obviously. _________________ "He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose."

Thanks very much for the help. I'll try to figure out a way to mount it flush that way. I guess it's extra protection/rigidity next to the bumper. Checking again this evening it looks like holes line up to be part of the bracket mounting to the bumper.

Yes, bumper stiffener. Acessory. Not sure it's a good idea. The bumper was designed to absorb impact and crumple. With that installed it would transfer impact damage to the frame which would be harder and more costly to correct. The Wolfsburg engineers knew what they were doing and someone second guessed them with these IMHO. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Thanks for those thoughts. That all makes sense to me. So I may leave it off. _________________ "He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose."
