Hi, Working on a 1970 vw 1600 motor. The rod that connects the bellows to the flaps was missing when I got it. Have a replacement one now. Question is which way does the 90 degree bent end fit into the flap. Insert from the rear of the flap (back of motor) or from the front( front of motor)? Also is there supposed to be a push washer to hold it in position? Thanks.

Oh yes it did! Just the view I needed. Thank you. My big problem now is I cannot find the correct push washer to hold the cross bar over the flap arms. Have gone to local hardware stores and flap rod is just about .235 and under cut groove where push washer finally lands is about .200 Nothing fits over well and locks onto the undercut groove. Afraid of them vibrating off at some point. Do they make specific ones for this? I have the 4 flaps that individually connect to the cross bar not the style shown in parts diagram. You guys area life saver.

I think this is what you are looking for. My ACE hardware had them.
Thermostat rod clip. Look at this page it is on there.

Great, I will go back and see if our Ace carries them or will order from vendor you showed me. Assume these will work for the flap arms too.
