These were never body mounted except for the two that were screwed into the upper rear quarter panels (right behind the door openings). We should see 6 "hold downs" screwed into the decorative chrome strip that resides just below the rear window.

Appears if the front hood gave them some trouble. Sits up when closed, not flush with the body. It appears in the pictures as if the builder removed some of the front hood's rubber weather strip (under the windshield area) to help the lid close flusher(?).

Still, no easy task to bring the car to this level!

Without a doubt this is a high level restoration and a beautiful car regardless of the incorrect items mentioned. My opinion is that it is too nice to be enjoyed as a driver. I wonder how much it cost the seller to build this? Any idea?

Probably more than what it sold for. A decent project car will be around $20k alone these days. Biggest problem is finding a shop that can do it right. I can only think of two.

Yes, high level work for sure. Here is the car when it was offered on Oldbug.com:

Curious to see if anyone even places the initial bid. Projects are a hard sell nowadays.

First bid made

Sold for $7.5k. Wish I had been following it now. I thought it would hit $10 - $15k so didn’t bother with the ‘it followed me home honey’ and ‘I promise this will be the last one (this month)’ discussion.

Fair price for that car I’d think. It needs everything and might need more depending on what’s under that paint. And lowlights are crazy expensive to do right.
Did his other cars sell? I see his 60 convertible got pulled before the end of the auction. That was a nice car.

In one of his eBay ads he says he is a "Karmann Ghia collector/ hoarder" that is liquidating 15 cars. Shocked
I know he has been buying up KGs for quit a few years now, but I don't know what else he might have for sale.

Sadly, the start price (that I know is due to all the rare parts) and the hassle of transporting such a project up to Europe is preventing me from going crazy on it.. still, it stays in my mind..

It’s a confusing ad.
So, the clip is the only body part original to the pan? The rear section it off another car so how can you date it since there are no numbers stamped on the rear? It could be a late 56. Or maybe the rear is original and the front clip is later and they took the body tag off of a crushed original front and screwed it to the later clip?
In any case you have a FrankenGhia at the end of the day which you would think would hurt it’s value to collectors. Maybe that and the insane asking price is why they haven’t been able to sell it.

If there’s anyone who could do that car justice it would be you. If I could on a whim, I would pay the price of admission. It would be awesome to see the transformation in your hands. I just checked out your ragtop thread, beautiful!

It’s fun that it is so early isn’t it?
Note, this is the person who sells cars for Richard Troy— sold me my car.
