It seems that this happens so rarely, thought it might be interesting to post them.

https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/volksw...2022-02-08

Perhaps I have tread upon some unwritten rule that John will not hesitate to point out but I know I would love to see them.

That's a whooper of an ad to start the thread with, lol.

That car just sold for big $$ at an auction. It was pulled from BAT previously for having suspect provenance (you'll notice the fresh air vent controls on the dash indicate the '55-'56 style in a "1958" car).

Original BAT ad (read the comments for entertainment):

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1958-volkswagen-karmann-ghia/

And *SOLD* on 1/29/22 for $68,200:

Oh, yeah, now I remember.
Oh well, I still like the idea.

So these guys bought it thinking they can flip it for a profit? I guess they are bullish on lowlight prices. Given that so few properly restored ones hit the open market I guess they are counting on a lot of uneducated buyers failing to notice potentially that the front of the car is different from the back or bare minimum that it’s a 56 on a 58 pan.

Oh I hope not— was just hoping to see all lowlight offerings in one thread.
Please don’t misconstrue my intent.

I got the impression that this thread was to be all encompassing of what's out there for sale, without opinion on good deal or bad deal. A place for the fair deals too, if you will.

I don't know how the auctions work - any chance the BJ auction winner couldn't or wouldn't close the sale? Either outbidding their means, or learning of its questionable history and refusing to pay after the fact? It could be possible that the current seller was also the one that put it in the auction, so maybe it hasn't changed hands yet if the auction sale flopped?

I think it could be summed up as;
"Fool Me once shame on me, Fool me twice shame on you"
Silver Arrow Cars is laughing all the way to the bank!
It is a very nice looking lo-light. Just too many issues to command that sort of money, especially if trying to market as an investment.

Well I'm not going to rain on your parade as there's already too many of you ready to kick my head in if I lock this. Laughing

TBH it's a misrepresentation and that has always been reason enough for a stand alone thread, so carry on...

From just a quick look, it's very well presented but the list of wrong parts are obvious and endless.

Sad to see a lowlight "improved" like this!!! Especially a convertible no less. Too few were built to see one end up like this.

You must have meant this one Marc.
