I assume you're speaking of forged Wiseco pistons.

I edited my last post. I meant, ring gap. Not clearance. Embarassed

Do you have 94s? I have the actual Wiseco rings to use for turbo. A spare set if you need them. Just let me know .. no charge

Forgot to mention, you should use the Total Seal 2nd ring in addition.

Yes 94's. I need to research the JE ring manufacturer. I can't imagine they would supply shit rings with the piston sets.

Hmmm. Now I gotta find a set of Total seal rings!
Thanks for the hint! Wink

Finally! After waiting 16 days for the Mahle rod bearings to complete their trip here. They have arrived in the mail.
They were shipped up to Portland, back down to Covina, then back up to Hillsboro. I have no idea why they made the trip twice. But at least they are in my hands now and I can move forward.

In the mean time. I worked at getting the oil pickup tube installed.
I ended up trimming the insertion tube about 12mm to get the pickup tube into the sump opening. I sealed the insertion tube to the case with Permatex 518.

Then a few nights ago, I checked the rod to cam clearance.
Uh Oh!

Even though the FK10 cam is pre-clearanced. It needed a little more work on the flats to get some good rod clearance.

I'll get to fitting the rod bearings tonight. Then continue with the complete engine mockup.
Good fun ahead!

No one wants to be bored, with a run of the mill engine assembly.

So skipping that. I have been fitting tins on the mocked up engine.

Just a wee bit wide!

I'm currently dealing with this issue.

The real issue is. The fan shroud is sitting tall over the case and cylinder tins.

I get that I have to trim the shroud to fit it to the case.

But, trim too much and the gen/fan will be outta place on the filler stand.

Plus the case bolt will be in contact with the FS.

I placed that 10mm end wrench under the gen to show how much I can trim the FS.
I checked the alignment of the FS and the case before placing the shim under the gen.

So, I guess I need to lengthen the cylinder tin to FS sheet metal.
Unless someone has a better suggestion.

I’m betting that once you clearance the bottom of your fan shroud for that fat case,
The cylinder tins will be fitting up around the bottom of the shroud.

So,
You going to run a t-stat and flaps?

It depends on what shroud I decide to run.
Scat 36 hp, or VW. Both are doghouse.

VW shroud for the win, preferably with the venturi ring if possible. Your IDAs and your turbo setup might not fit as easily with it though.

The IDA's hit the VW Shroud. I'd have to use the 36r to avoid modifying the JayCEE intake manifold to head flanges. <Some food for thought there, PUMA Shroud man! Wink

The turbo kit was designed and installed in a 67 Beetle with a VW DS FS.
My plan is to complete the installation with the VW shroud as designed. Cool

Of course, I could always install the 45 Dells for the breakin. With the VW Shroud.
Then finish the EFI, COP, Intercooled, turbo installation. Piece of cake! Right? Shocked

45 Dells with factory doghouse shroud-friendly manifolds for the win!

So I have done some fabrication on the cylinder head tins.
This is not my favorite thing to do. I don't weld sheet metal often. So, it is always a challenge to get it right.

What I am good at is, blowing holes through the sheet metal. Shocked Shocked .

Anyway, I cut a 3/8" strip of 22ga. metal and gently bent it to fit the radius of the head tin,

Then blew holes through the metal. I finally got it, mostly welded up and set the tin on the cylinders.

Beats this fitup example,

Shorty after the former pics were taken. My garage heater took a dirt nap and my welder started making an odd buzzing noise.

Today I'm in the beginnings of an episode of the flu. Good times! Confused
