Hello

I have bought me a new project.
(Allready have 2 vw’s bug 72 And bus 64)
For now we have only bought a body of a Karmann coupe.
Age of the body begin 60’s they have told me.

I’ve found someone who has a lot of parts which i can buy (All togheter, no separate parts for sale)
I was just wondering which parts I can use.
As i have been informed the parts of late 60’s And begin 60’s are not All the same.

Could anyone tell me if the majority of these parts Will fit?
These are the pictures I have recieved.
Think they are allready a bit of a mix of ages…
Seats with no head rest would be correct for begin 60…?

But what about smaller parts in the picture?
Whipers, fuell gauge, door panels, bumperguards, Windows…

Nice looking body.
Some of that stuff you can use some you can’t, buy it all, sort it out sell the rest…
The seats look like bug ones.

I don’t remember exactly where but there are some number stampings in the front trunk on the passenger side that can help you identify the year of the body.

I’m thinking it’s a 60-62, looks like it still has a hole for the fuel reserve tap.

If you decide to go this route, I might be interested in buying those exterior door handles if they have the solid backs (not cored-out like most) and the chrome is in good shape (no pitting, peeling, or major scratches).

This is an example from the gallery of a handle that's cored-out on the back side ↓

FWIW- that glovebox is no longer made and if it's nice- keep it. Early Ghia folks always like to find chrome bumper parts in good shape- especially the earlier cast uprights. License light housings that have all their mounting studs are always appreciated.

My 56 originals were hollow as well as my 62, was solid a one year thing?

The back side of the door handles were solid on '67s, and possibly on '66s too.

Here's an example of a solid handle. Compare with the photo in my previous post.

There’s always tons of buried nightmares under bondo on Ghias. The cost of them being cheap cars and expensive to repair.

Bought me a other nose. Not perfect but way better then the original one.
There were to much bad parts in the original one And i also want to change the inner wings… so the nose has to come off to do this propely I think?

Anyone has any tips on the order of removing the parts.
I need to reuse the bumpermounts. Is it only possible to weld them in after the nose is welded in And bumpers are attached to see the position of the mounts.
Or is it possible to measure the location on the old ones? Haven’t any bumpers yet. Or make a tool to keep them on the same place on the new inner wings…

Al tips are welcome! Or links to topics Smile (with photos that are still visible)

My guess is a '62 or '63 model year body with a '64+ door:
-Factory holes for shoulder belt mount ('62+)
-Flush pull handle style door actuator rod ('64+), though it's possible a later door was fitted to a '62 body due to the clue of the remnant fuel reserve tap hole. But there would be no tap factory-installed by then anymore.
-Still has the "C"-shaped door latch which was thru '63. '64 was the rectangular latch.

I am going to replace my Karmann nose

I have a new nose with a different plate to hold the bonet lock.
Does this make a difference or can I also use the catch of the new nose?

The new plate wont work with the old lid, but you can un-pick the spot welds and swap the plate, preserve the look and use the original parts.

This.
But also consider that if you don’t want to do the small amount of work to swap mounting plates then you will need to get a later hood to match the later plate.

I can’t remember to see spotwelds in the plate. Will look for them tomorrow

The spot welds will be visible on the slam panel once you remove all the paint. I had to do this on my Ghia, as my donor nose was from a 64 (old latch), and my 66 has the new latch.
Although your donor nose is much newer because it has the mount for the washer bottle, which didn't get moved to the slam panel until 68 or 69, I think.
