I have a set of EMPI 44HPMX carburetors that I would like to use on my 1776 engine. Has anyone used this combination that could help with proper jet sizes?
Also I have not been able to determine what the differences are between the 40HPMX and the 44HPMX. I believe the carburetors share the same size body but the throttle plates are different sizes, beyond that I am unsure.
Anyway If anyone could shed some light on this it would be appreciated.

Meefer,

I think the 44’s are too big.

However…..

The Weber Tech Manual states the following as a starting point for Duals:

1. 1600-1835
2. 28mm Venturi
3. 210 Air Correction
4. 140 Main Jet
5. F11 Emulsion Tubes
6. 55 idles.

I believe this is no matter whether own a 40 or 44 IDF. I think the challenge is getting a larger flowing carb to breath like a 40. Your 44’s are probably set up larger than this.

I would give Jeff at Kaddie Shack a call in Pasadena, CA as he sells HPMXs. My comments are strictly based on Webers since HPMXs are supposedly clones.

Good Luck

Depends on your heads and exhaust. Big valve ported heads and exhaust, go big on the carbs. Small heads go small carbs.

I ran 44s on a 1776. It wasn't dialed in and ran rich. But ran it did.

My uncle revving it in his garage
