According to this

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=132076

there are 29 inner and 31 outer splines for the type-3 front torsions. Sound right? Given that, I am only missing the expected drop for a given change in trailing link angle.

Yes. I think the drop of 2 inner splines is equal to 1 9/16ths of an inch, while 2 splines outer is equal to 1 3/4 inches (maybe it's the other way around). It's been a while since I've dropped a front, as the last one I did was my 64 T-34.

When I dropped the rear I left the front around 1* nose-high. As it turns out, the left and right torsions were not equal either. Embarassed

The car is now dead level front to back and side to side.

I know lots of people want the (slight) nose-down stance. And I may change it at some point. It's easy because - type-3 Smile

But at this point I don't want to risk the tire catching the fender lip.

In other news, I got a call from Logan Kinney up at Sewfine. My carpet and carpet padding is in and the seats just shipped from CA.

If it's level now, you might want to take it out for a drive and see if it'll settle some. That could change a few things on your plans to proceed with whatever you want to do next regarding the suspension.
I know when I reset the rear of my 71 Notch, I was back in there a day or 2 later resetting it again, as it was hitting the top of the inner fender wells (dropped it just a little too much). Keep in mind that you can do both inner and outer spline moves (a combination drop) to get it exactly where you want it (if it's not where you want it already).

Thanks Bob. When these wheels and tires were on the square the front outside tire would occasionally snag the fender lip if I backed up and turned with too much aggression. That tended to get the front bouncing a bit. But they were a little lower then.

So yeah, this is where I'll start. Next week if the weather cooperates I'll take it down to the cop-shop for the VIN verification. Then I can insure and register it.

Vin verification completed.

The seats should be in Denver sometime this week. And I've ordered up a set of stainless bumpers from Vietnam. I'll be putting my old ones up for sale along with some other stuff I've had hanging around.

Question. I have two m4 taps. One has a pitch of .7 and the other .75. Which would be correct for these tabs? I'll be buying fasteners tomorrow.

My wife's 70 Fastback used small sheet metal screws there on 1 side. On my 71 Notch, I used small stainless steel screws there, and had no issues.

Yes, the stock screw looks like a sheet metal screw. It has the look of an import "hack"!

I never liked that, so if you are re-tapping it, choose screws you like (preferably stainless) and then tap to wait. Keep spares in the ashtray or glovebox, or taped in a baggie in the headlight bucket, because later on, no one will know what you used, and strip it out with a sheet metal screw!

Tapped to M4x.7 and used some Ace HW screws.

Headlights are not wired yet, waiting for the bucket grommets. And these are my old lights and bumpers. But she has a nice smile. Smile

And here are the stainless bumpers I got from Vietnam. The CSP exhaust ties into the bumper brackets making it surprisingly hard to get the bolts started. And the left front mount was welded in crooked so I had to modify the bracket.

A simple job made annoying.

How do you like the fir? Does the inner contour of the bumpers flow with the body?

So I'm wrestling with putting the material on the B-pillar. The corners are the issue. Mainly, how to get the wrinkles out. So I'm searching all type-3 images with "headliner" or "pillar" or "post" in the title then looking at any threads they were used in.

Right now it looks like this. Crying or Very sad

Found this thread with pictures but awddsm hasn't been on in quite a while.

This picture is one of a series of images from W1K1 who clearly knows what he's doing.

I need some tips on how to get the wrinkles out in the corners.

Just received the windlace set from ISP. Either it's too short or I don't understand what it's supposed to cover. Is it not supposed to go on the B-pillar?

I don't get the pinch welt. It would be in the way of the pop out rubber. Also the rubber for a fixed window. I'm confused.

Fastbacks don`t use pinchwelt on the quarter windows.

Stationary windows don't use pinchwelt, they use the seal to hold the headliner material in place.
