I did a test fit of the front bumper this morning and I have to be honest, I hate it !!!!
It just doesn't look right, plus it doesn't match the look of the rear.
I also dont like this big open spot near the shock tower.
Im not gonna get off easy with the front one, looks like more cut, chop and welding for me.
UGH!!

My old man’s car has that bumper but he has the wide eye and the lights fill that gap. Ever see those cars that have the bug eye AND the wide eye fenders? Car looks great man didn’t know you had a build thread on it just read the whole thing _________________ Trip Report #1:

Well even if those spring plate straps ain't pretty, that's just how Chenowth did it on a few thousand frames, and mine is still kicking 48 years later! _________________ 1974 Chenowth 2RL #1244 Street Legal

Tell me please about that aluminum air filter cover. |
Hey Dusty happy New year
I'm surprised an old veteran like you hadn't seen one of these before.
It's just a simple cover just like the round ones you would normally see on a solex carb or a zenith.
I scored these billet air filters a few weeks ago, traded a type 3 header and muffler for them.
Funny thing is I was using this one cover as a trash can on my work bench for the last 10-15 years. LOL
with all the rain we've been having lately I figured I better put it to use . . . hahaha
It does have a cut out on one corner because it was apparently used on a dual setup in a previous life.

I've been familiar with that type of air filter cover since the 1960s. But ones to fit Webers are uncommon to find. We have a Chenowth with a single Weber on it's 1914. It has the tall air filters. It needs a cover for the tall filter like yours. Same deal. Need to keep rain out and it helps reduce the amount of debris that comes to the filter element too. Right now it sits outdoors with a laundry detergent bottle fitted under the short height round filter cover that's on it now to keep rain out. _________________ Richard

The brakes have been having an issue lately, pedal keeps getting softer and softer as I drive it.
It just started recently.
Can't find a leak anywhere and the reservoir is still full.
So no better time to do the rear brake swap and new wheel cylinders at all four.
All apart and letting the gear oil drain out. |

Finally got the rear brakes and drums on, had a little trouble with some interference between the drums shoes and back of the studs but just kept at it till it was done.
Man it was cold in the garage today, or I'm just getting old. LOL
Tomorrow I'll swap out the front wheel cylinders and call it done for a little while. |

Well that's finally all back together, it is kinda weird with the brake bias changed from front to rear.
Gonna give her a good run today to either get used to it or switch back. |

What size master cylinder?
I swapped the lines at the MC as well and mine stops hard with 33’’s and thing rear drums |
Hey Mike what up?
I think it's a 17mm single master, I'll have to check again.
But honestly after testing it out this afternoon it started to feel better,. I think the brakes just need to be seated good.
Found what local dirt I could . . LOL

Looks like shoes are worn more at the top of the shoe than at the bottom.
Someone before you didn't know about manually adjusting the brake shoes regularly.
Was that Big Tujunga? I'll bet that wash doesn't look that dry today. _________________ Richard

Hello Dusty
Yes the brakes that originally came with this car were not in the best condition when I started.
I sure didn't want to spend money on them when my plan was to go to the later setup, but they were good enough to shake the other bugs outta this thing. LOL
After finishing the brake upgrade the other day ( and yes we went up to Big-T that day ). LOL
The next day the brake issue returned.
Only one suspect left after that.
Took apart the master and it was all clogged up with crap!
All six of these holes had gunk in them.
Got it all cleaned up and back on last night, I'll bleed them again today and get back with the results. |

Over the last 35 years, before we retired, there were many days that we've done our commuting to and from work via Big T. Back when I lived in San Fernando and worked in Pacoima in the 1970s, I used to often go up Big T after work in my '65 Baja Bug for stress relief. At the time there was an offroad trail that I could get off the pavement at the end of Oro Vista and take it all the way to the bottom of the dam. Parts were serious 4WD trail. Had lots of beer cans and small rocks thrown at me when I would rock crawl my Baja around guys that were stuck in big lifted 4WD trucks and Jeeps. Lots of fun. After the big winter of 1978, that trail was no more. But it was re-developed later. _________________ Richard

Ran into a little issue with the skid plate, I have a mini sump on the motor so bolting it straight to the cage was out.
Had to make a little riser to get enough clearance.
Still need another section to cover the trany area.
