Air Bag Clock Spring Recall (Tiguan, et al)

It is my understanding there may be an air bag clock spring recall for certain years Tiguan, Eos, Passat, CC, Jetta and Golf. It seems I have this symptom with my '13 Tiguan -- no electrical connection with steering wheel functions, air bag malfunction, and a faint but noticeable grinding noise when turning the wheel.

Does anyone have further info on this? I would like to be armed with knowledge when calling a dealership.

Humm... isn't that Tiguan a Mexico built one? I guess these was/is a Takata airbag Recall associated with it? Is it applicable to this particular car? Has it been done, if so, what are the odds something got punched and hammered during the procedures?
Anyways, one more Recall, the Tiguan might be able to handle it!

I highly doubt if it related to anything that was done [if the airbag was replaced].

Clock springs have been around for awhile now but if it's true that the clock springs are failing and the recalls are happening, VW is not the only manufacturer with this problem. Mercedes has the same thing.

Some engineer probably came up with a better clock spring and they are just not lasting. Assuming the recall is true.
