So, I have picked up another ZV JCU 4 R 3 Distributor. This one has the correct and functional vacuum. (Unlike the one I have now with the wrong vacuum bell)
I read Glenn is not doing Dizzy restoration any longer due to lack of kits. So, have decided to do this myself. I overhauled an 019 and a 205G decades ago. So while rusty, it is not a new thing.
My main concern is this question: Are there any parts, shims, etc that are unique to the JCU 4 R 3 beyond the double weights and vacuum unit? My main concern is springs. I have springs from my two, but know springs do get weak.
I already have two new 3002 caps, two 4006 rotors and one new condensor, I will be using 1002 points.
Any other items such as shims and fiber or felt bits, I will have to get.
My other question is in regard to axial and radial play. My existing R 3 has minimal play, but has no shims at the bottom, just the fiber washer. My new purchase R 3 has a bit of play and with shims above and below the fiber washer. My Blue Bentley is what I am using for reference shows shims and fiber washer.
Pictures to follow when I get started

You might want to contact Pedro, or Jason (Notchboy) as they might have some parts and advice on going thru it.

It's the same as all of the other cast iron distributors. The main difference in the shaft are the weights. They sit on pins like the later model aluminum distributors have. The fiber washers are the same as well as the shims. I sell a shim kit that has all of those parts in it. What else do you need to know?

So, I am just getting started. I am as previously said pleased with the condition of the unit I purchased.
This is what it looked like when it arrived.

I have taken it apart except for the small center snap ring. I will be following Glenn's advice and carefully punch it to release.

Making sure I take picture of the shims and associated order.

It is cleaning up well. Next will be putting it in the Ultrasound batch for the deep clean.

Next step after cleaning is waiting for the overhaul kit. Then, back together we go. Details will follow

That all looks correct. You have the correct vacuum canister as well. You'll want to put a pressure tester on there because they can be bad. They can also stick.

Do you see any rust on the bottom of the shaft? Any dimpling from corrosion

I will do the more detailed corrosion review once I get done with the Ultrasonic clean.
I am not placing the Vacuum can in the ultrasonic. I used a Hand vacuum gauge to measure and test. It appears to be holding vacuum on low pressure. and The retraction is full when fully pumped. My minor concern is the cap bolt on the can looks like it had been moved. I hope someone did not change the screw setting on the unit. (I did that very thing decades ago on my 59 when I did not know better)

Your breaker plate has the "nubs" for adjusting the dwell as we discussed on the phone.
