I don't like to keep using the BAT Thread to mention Ghias on eBay so maybe there should be a separate thread to discuss or share Ghia auctions on ebay. It is after all how I found my Original 22K mile 68 Vert.
Ending in about an hour is a mostly original 69 orange Coupe with black interior. The interior is mostly all original and in pretty nice shape. It has 78K miles and is being sold with no reserve by the 2nd owner. Looks like it's had a respray but the body looks mostly straight with very even panel gaps and good floors. There's some rust over the head lights and I think there might be some repairs to the rockers, but over all it's a nice complete drive-able car that's been maintained for the road. It's been sitting at $9800 for a while. At this price I think someone would be getting a great bargain. If anyone's looking for a decent coupe, might be worth looking at this one.

The reason why there hasn't been an eBay thread is that it was always forbidden. Forum members could be stalking a car, hoping nobody in the forums was going to call attention to it.
It's still in the rules: "DON'T post links to active eBay auctions / craigslist ads unless the purpose is to highlight something that is misrepresented/fraudulent OR if you need feedback on a possible purchase."
However, times change and people don't miss much these days so it's a rule that's been overlooked for some time. It's now largely down to individual Samba Forums to decide if they want to allow it.
Personally I don't mind if that's what the majority want. _________________ John.

Sorry about that John. I didn't know about the rule. I will say however that most cars on Ebay are from Dealers who post and repost and repost mostly to get a buyer who then negotiates "off" ebay. That was exactly the case with my 68 cabriolet. That dealer lists his cars on half a dozen sites including his own, eBay and Hemmings just as advertising and then ends up negotiating by phone.
Every once in a while I'll see an honest Ghia on Ebay that is being sold by a true owner (not a dealer) such as this orange 69. Surprising that he didn't put a reserve on it. I think he could have done much better if he had listed it on BAT, but to each his own. _________________ Marc

That is, without a doubt, the ugliest, most ridiculous-looking Karmann Ghia that I've ever seen. There's hardly any "Ghia-ness" left in it

His car ,his money.most definitely a lot of work and time went into that car,but to bash the guys head in is not what this hobby is about.no body ever tells guy a car show his car is ridiculous but on the inter web it’s another story.I don’t like what’s been done to the car but it’s not mine and the owner apparently liked it a one time. |

"Runs great, attracts a crowd."<-- No kidding, because it's the UGLIEST POS I have ever seen of any car! He needs to pawn it off to someone in the movie business to use in some futuristic crap movie! Ultimate Abortion Award Winner!
And I too would tell him to his face what a POS this is and ask what the hell were you thinking?

A new listing from a private seller in Florida. A 1970 coupe. Might make a decent project. Seller started the bidding at $4300 and no reserve. Tough to tell how much body was done but it does not look like a basket case. Could be an affordable project.

Samba is full of cars like this. Be interesting to see if this one goes for more than what most are asking for a comparable car. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

From What I've seen there are not nearly as many deep pockets on eBay as there is on BAT so there's been some decent bargains from time to time. The down side is that the majority of the cars on eBay are listed by dealers with no intention of having a bidding war. They list them with an inflated "Buy it Now" price. Mostly just for advertising _________________ Marc

A 73 Vert just listed on eBay. Very sharp car. Looks like a very professional restoration. Exterior is mostly stock. Interior is a custom modern look but appears very well done. The car has 4 wheel disk brakes and working air conditioning. $45,000. Sounds like a lot but it would cost more than that to build a car like this. For a ready to enjoy convertible Ghia, not bad, and it was featured in Hot VWs magazine. The body looks as perfect as any I've seen. I think it would look even better with narrow white walls and with the windshield chrome.
