I found a cheap 42S pump on eBay and swapped it out this weekend. The engine idled just fine with it, but I still had the same choking/stalling under normal acceleration. I did notice a slight difference, but I guess now it's time to adjust the carbs and check the timing as you suggested. This engine really wants to run!
