So I’ve been lurking here for awhile but didn’t have a Ghia before now.
I’ve been into the bugs for 26years so it’s not all new to me, even the Ghia only things I don’t know much about so expect there will be questions in the future.

I’ve bought this 65 Ghia in Finland originally it came to L.A. when new, then to Finland in 1993 and was restored in 2000-2002 and now it resides in Denmark.
I know the door panels aren’t correct but this will do for now.

This will be a driving project with changes made as I get the ideas (already plenty of them Laughing )

Really nice looking Ghia! Black is such a great, underrated color on a Ghia. My first two Ghias were both black. There's something just a little bit sinistro about a black Ghia, a feeling that doesn't come across with any other color. Cool

Hey, you finally got here Peter. Gotta love a Black Ghia Smile

Not so many dedicated Ghia accessories as there are for Beetles but the '65 engine opens a lot of opportunities in the engine compartment. Very Happy

You can find the factory interior colors for each body color here, listed by model year. I posted this link in your other thread about interior colors

Yes I know thank you, but I don't think they are talking about panel, only seats and carpet. Exept if there is something I don't understand...(that's really possible, I'm french)

Thank you all for the welcome.
Havent done much yet. But it has passed danish tech inspection so now I’m just waiting for the license plates even it’s winter here.
I’ve added a speedwell steering wheel and empi hornpush.
Euro km speedo hope to find a trip one one day.
And the week before I picked up the car I was lucky enough to find a original Ghia tach at a German swap meet and that’s also installed.

Peter,

First of all, congrats on finding a nice car. I am quite curious about the tachometer you found. Is it wired directly to the coil or does it have the sending unit that reads the rotation of the engine pulley as seen in the drawing below?

Its connected directly to the coil.
I used to have a tach with sender like that on my old oval.

Hello Peter, this is Peter Az (Arizona)
I think your black ghia is badass and beautiful. I found a 65 vert last January and have restored it to my current skill levels, with paint and stock parts..
I purchased from the Orig Owner, who imported it from Germany and parked it in arizona garage for 20 years. It had a good bit of rust from some years in Hawaii, and I learnt to patch and stitch weld. There is some terrible body work still needing to be redone that I didnt see before the Turquoise paint, but its a work in progress...a driving project. One of the problems I have is that since its a vert, I cannot really lock the engine cover release (out of easy reach). Hot wire and push are the way to steal and strip the parts. P put it in the classifieds, but have found my pricing is out of touch with the advertised community. I found a 69 sedan that I wish to spend my time with now and am learning that part of ghias now.
Have a great holiday.
Peter Az

I'm not sure how you can tell that from the pictures in this thread. The definitive tell will be the VIN. '65 was the first year that the 3rd number in the VIN corresponded to the model year. If it starts with 145, then it's a '65.

Another tell, which can't be seen in the pics, is the front trunk latch. '65 was the first year for the later larger front trunk striker latch.

I also don't see a rotary heater knob in the photo of the interior. '64 was the last year for the rotary heater knob.

Another tell that it's a '65 will be the rear view mirror. '65 was the first year for the 65-66-67 style rear view mirror mounting base, where the sun visors were not hard mounted to the same base as the rear view mirror. If '65, the sun visors will be mounted to the top of the A-pillar with clips on the mirror base, so that they can detach from the mirror base and pivot to be used to shade from the side. '64 sun visors are fixed to the the rear view mirror base and can only flip down to shade from the front.
I did find this pic, not in this thread, in Peter Plade's photos though. The way that the sun visors are angled upward in the center in this photo (and you can just make out the mounting arm near the A-pillar on the driver side), would lead me to believe it has the 65 style mirror and visors

'64 rear view mirror. Sun visors hard mounted to base. Dome light is separate.

'65-66 rear view mirror. Sun visors are mounted to A-pillar, and only clip into mirror base so they can swivel. Dome light is part of rear view mirror base.
(67 has the same base, but the mirror itself is oval shaped)
