He's blasting about in a buggy in the dunes with a 2.4L engine and says he cracked his oil filter. I assumed something hit it?

If he is using the stock filter location and the stock length (short filter) filter....thats not very likely without bashing more than a few other pieces under the engine (not impossible though).

However, if he is using a longer length filter in teh stock location...sure...its a good deal more possible than with the short filter.

If he is using a remote in-line filter stuck to the frame somewhere....its totally possible.

I would think in a buggy the oil filter would be under a skid plate or up high and out of the way.

It would be nice to know more. Ray

I agree. It’s tucked up pretty good.

I think we need some pictures of the setup, and how the oil filter failed.

Yes, something hit it. I'm an idiot. The filter was a long one that just barely fit and it was very close to the rear cage steel bar. After some driving and flexing the filter got smashed into the bar just a little bit but enough that it made a little crease in the body of the filter which caused to a big leak. Lesson learned. User error!!

Hmm, stock spin on oil filters, on my T-4 never thought of it getting hit. Sure, soft metal filter... Even objects kicking up on a highway!! Thanks.

Well, it was right up next to the cage tubing, being it was a long filter. I didn't think the filter would be that fragile but it didn't take much since it had pressure inside and the metal was cheaply made..
