I rebuilt/refreshed my carburetors. Now they run just a little worst thank before. When I initially took them apart one side had different sizes of jets than the other. Thinking that was a mistake I make sure both sides had matching jets sizes living in central Kentucky in. What is the correlation/combination between the 3 jets. One is the main, one been air correction (I think) and the other needle jet(outside the carbs). I look down the carbs and the right carb throw gas at all times at a steady flow and the left one does not I got 2 videos, let me see if I can load them.

Volkswagen 1600 65-70 Autobook by Kenneth Ball has a big Chapter on the carburetors & fuel injection!
I got my copy from www.books4cars.com in Seattle.

on some of the cars the jetting was different because of the intake and air cleaner design. I have no idea what your car is, let alone what carbs are on the car. if it's stock carbs, the linkage needs to be straight and there are certain lengths each piece needs to be. after years of use, there will likely be slop in the ball ends, so take that into account.

this should help, this is the dealer tech book : https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/t3dualcarbtuning/index.php

I thought someone on here did a complete jetting chart of the different years of type 3 carbs, and posted up the different jet combos found to have been used in the Solex carbs. I know it's a few years old, but it covered all of the dual carb applications. Might be worth doing a search for it. A link for that thread might be in the stickies, but I'm not sure. I hope this helps.

. Thanks Bob. I did looked at that shart and was able to get some understanding that both sides are not equal in sense of jet size. I had assembled both sides equally. The right side was running very rich ant the left side almost no gas. After looking at the shart I got the left with Main=132.5, Air Correction=150. Right Main=130, Air Correction=150. Works almost perfect. As stated in the chart the left Air Correction needs to be lower but did not hed on hand(120) but is on order.

The length of the linkage bars had to be readjusted but the main problem was the jetting combo. Come to find out that both sides are jetted differently. I am still working that issue (waiting for parts). Got it running better after I got the comsect. As unbelievable it sounds to me,,,,, both sides are jetted differently

check your fuel pressure, if you have too high of fuel pressure the carbs will dribble constantly, and no amount of jetting will fix it.

The carbs are jetted differently right verses left. The VW engineers had that figgered out. When Volkzbitz rebuilt mine and a fine job I should say here is what he said.
Your carburetors each have a VW number, the one with VW98-1 has 132 main, 150 air and .55 idle. The VW99-1 has 130 main, 120 air and .55 idle.

Thanks for reminding me of that detail. I have not done that jet with this new set-up. I probably be working on the Fastback this weekend or early next week. I will let you know how it went.

Also, make sure that the needle and seat are sealing and that the correct size washer is being used

It is running ok, but I think It's running a bit rich by observing a little smoke. It's cold here so it could be that. Another thing I did was to take the temperature from numbers 2 and 4 and it varied by 50 to 75 degrees at idle but right side only varied by 25 degrees when accelerating for half minute. Have not taken the fuel pressure yet. Boy-O-Boy,,,, how many combinations are possible. I got it close for now. I have to get some work done on my headlights and take it around the block. Thanks for all the help so far. Feel free to keep the advice coming

Car run ok. I did not go far nor pushed hard. Have not taken a reading on fuel pressure yet. After I finish installing the headlights I will go further and push harder. Carbs are acting great after settling a bit.

Engine was running a bit rich on idle so I changed the idle jets from 55 to 50 and it stopped smoking a bit at idle and there is no gas smell. It also got better at running the carbs.

Contact CB Performance for jets, as they're about the only ones who might have them in stock.

I did. I ordered different ones so I could experiment. Gene Berg also has them. Thanks

I can't believe this is turning into a carburetor science study/experiment. I thought about venturi size and looked into one of my spare carburetor and guess what? Not one number but 3, 32-34-24,,,, so tomorrow I will dig all my spare type 3 carbs and take inventory of all possible combinations. Any suggestions? Oh, I am trying to figure out how to get photos here.

As for photos, you can follow the link provided when making a post, or just go to the gallery and keep an eye on the size of the pic and post it into your gallery album. I'm sure Ev or others could help better, as I haven't posted any new pics in a while, as I haven't really been working on my type 3 (my son has been tying up my garage trying to keep his daily Honda's running). I've still got an 80 TA sitting in one bay of my 2 car garage, and I've been trying to keep the primary bay open for "quick fix it jobs", but that's only working so-so, with my son using it most weekends. It's pretty bad when I have to ask if I can use my own garage to work on my own junk. Laughing

How to post photos link in my signature.
Email me if you have trouble.

I see you posted pics in the past but it was 2013... nothing has changed really but I understand if you have to figure it out again.

The first two numbers are the types of carbs the vents fit- 32 and 34 PDSIT. The last number is vent size- 24.

This helps a lot. I wonder how many sizes/combinations are available. I guess venturies from the Type 2 carbs will fit the Type 3 carbs?.... Thank you Tram.
