Looking to install a 240V/7500W ceiling mounted garage heater,( Comfort Zone $150)but avoid the cost/job of hard wiring. Is there any reason I should not just use an 8awg 3wire w/ NEMA6 - 50P plug, 20 ft. welder extension cord--- wired into the heater and plugged into my 50 Amp welder -designated plug in my garage? I figure I will only be running this heater for 2-4 hours at a time, just to make the garage tolerably warmer whilst I fiddle around.
I found a 20 ft cord for $67, and from what I am told it is about $300 to wire heater directly to panel. So I would prefer to just plug in as needed.Any caveats?

8 gauge , 30 Amp , 25 foot run.

Plenty of margin. Is that connector ok for use or is it designed for semi-permanent use?

Which connector? The outlet on wall is installed just below the panel. The cord will have one end cut off. Not sure of total amps drawn by heater. So, good to go?

The wire is fine for the amperage but many high amperage connectors are not rated for “ household “ use, like daily connects or disconnects.

Also , local codes often don’t allow heavy gauge wire to be loose like a cord. I know nothing about your local codes.

Thanks for the advice Abscate. I will only be using it occasionally.
