Curious.
Go to the back of the car. Open the decklid. Grab the crank pulley with 2 hands, tightly. Then try to push it into the case, followed by pulling it out of the case. Try a few times and use some forcefulness in moderation to check it with. _________________ Jimbo

You may have a couple of issues at the same time.
Your clutch noise sounds like a bad TO bearing or clutch pivot (cross shaft). Either requires engine removal to fix.
Any chance your motor/tranny mounts are weak, and the engine is moving as you declutch, causing the throttle cable to take up or let slack out? Longshot, but easy to check with a buddy observing.
Your ground strap looks correct; some connect it to one of the two nuts holding the nosecone to the mount, which does not complete the ground path!

I'll check motor mounts and timing again. I did the valves a few weeks ago. |

After the engine warmed up a bit, it wouldn't always die with the pedal on the floor but would drop from 600 rpms to about 100. |
Is your engine set up to idle @600rpm once warmed up? Normal warm idle for manual transmission engine is 800-950rpm. _________________ AshMan40

Oops! Fat-fingered THAT one! Supposed to read 900 rpm. |

Did you figure it out? I'm having the same issue on my 64. |
