My turn signal lever wasn't clicking back into place after turning, so I started trying to figure out a fix. Maybe the tweak I came up with is really common, but I hadn't come across it so I'm posting it in case anyone else runs into the same version of this problem.

When I removed the steering wheel, I could see that the plastic thingy that resets the lever was making contact with the cancel ring tab, but not enough so that the cancel ring tab could catch it and cause it to release. The tab needed to be thicker or be moved more to the right (toward the plastic thingy).

The plastic thingy that resets the lever (just to the right of the steering column):

I unscrewed the three screws that hold the cancel ring and discovered that the holes around the screws were bigger than the screws, which meant the cancel ring was somewhat adjustable. I moved the ring all the way to the right, tightened the screws, and reinstalled the steering wheel.

The good news: The turn signal lever again snapped back in place, perfectly. The bad news: Every time I turned right, the horn honked. I decided to try something else.

I took off the wheel again, and realized that if I cut a couple of notches in the sides of the cancel ring tab, I could probably bend the edges out without it touching any metal, and that the bent edges might move the plastic thingy correctly.

So I tweaked the cancel ring--with small notches cut and the edges bent out slightly--and it looked something like this:

And, hey, saints be praised, it worked. I took the rest of the day off and stopped strangers on the street to tell them of the day's success. Next up, I'm thinking of looking into nuclear fusion or maybe just cold fusion.

Anyway, posting this if anyone encounters the same problem. Cheers.
