In case you haven’t seen, the Bugout has been taken over by Krystopher Scott. If you are unfamiliar with the name, he is the owner of Oldtown Air Cooled in Fredericksburg VA. Here is some more info on the quality of his work.

As much as I was a fan of the past shows, and a supporter of them, and Less who put them on, I’d highly suggest distancing the VW community as a whole from Mr Scott.

For sure. I give it maybe two years and the shine of "Bug Out" will go away, harder to find sponsors and it will be done. Of course he will get the people to go that are used to the name at first.....

Beware of Krystopher Scott, or as I like to call him, Kon Man. This man's life story consists of dumping a bunch of money into starting up businesses (google Dark Star Cafe in Fredericksburg, VA) and then closing them, screwing over countless people.

His latest scam he's cooked up is that he is a "Vintage Volkswagen Specialist." The shop started out in 2021 as Old Town Air Cooled. Since he received so many bad reviews and built such a bad reputation under that name, he changed it to Air Cooled Station. That did not last long. His shop now goes by the name Old Town Air Heads (a rather fitting name if you ask me). I brought my 1966 VW Herbie The Love Bug Replica to him in April of 2021, and he did not release it to me until May of 2022. He had the car for 428 days, and I received a car in worse condition than when I first brought it to him.

It was agreed upon that he would replace the floor plans, cut out and fab metal anywhere there was rust, paint, and an engine overhaul. Not one of those things was correctly completed. See picture below, where he used liquid nails to repair the passenger side rear quarter panel. A former employee told me he was there when the decision was made to use the liquid nails and said he had been heavily advised not to do so. As I installed the headliner last week, I knocked loose some of his top-notch work. He put drywall tape over a rust patch, and it fell off.

Don't even get me started on the paint job. I think he painted the car 5 to 6 times and still couldn't get it right. Orange peel everywhere, along with awkward textures. Not to mention he took no fixtures off to paint each time. Door panels, windows, knobs, trim, door handles, etc., were all left in for paint.

Not only is his work crappy, but believe it or not, his customer relations and people skills are severely lacking. He spoke down to me as a customer. He told me I was "harassing" him whenever I asked for an update on my car. He began to dodge calls and would answer when we could call from a different number he wasn't aware of. He would then get mad, have an outburst, and hang up. I don't know about you, but I don't think is the way to run a successful business. All of his employees have now quit because he wouldn't pay them but would blow money on extravagant things like weekend trips to New York City.

This guy is a true Kon Man. The scammer of scammers. Drop his name anywhere around Fredericksburg, and I guarantee 80% of the people you talk to will have something bad to say about him. He puts on the show that he loves VWs and that he's always had a passion for them.

It could not be more evident that he is only in this business for the money, and now it's spreading to BugOut. I mean, look at what he's charging and how he's charging people compared to shows in the past and other shows occurring around the same timeframe.

I have considered the car I brought him as a family member since it entered our lives 15 years ago. I thought it would finally get the restoration it deserved, but I was wrong. Kon Man took my family member and did a complete injustice to it. Now I'm forced to take what he's given back to me, put it back together to the best of my ability, and sell the car for as much money as possible because of how much money I am out, thanks to Krystopher Scott. I don't know if I can fully describe how incredibly painful it is to install everything I had once planned and imagined for my restored car- now just to sell to someone else. When that car goes, it will take a piece of my heart, a large portion of my life, with it, but I have no other choice. Does Krytsopher care at all? Nope. And that should tell you everything you need to know about him and what he does.

You may ask: Why don't you sue him? Take him to court? Because he's a broke bum loser. He has no money to pay, and it would just end up putting me into an even bigger money pit for no payout.

Many others who have been screwed over by him have reached out with their stories (one woman is in the process of suing him over his work on her car). This guy has been at this kind of garbage for years, and I'm calling him on it. He will not get away with this dishonesty and thievery any longer. I will do anything in my power to ensure that no other VW lover and enthusiast is taken advantage of by Krystopher.

Not only that, but the guy is such a LOSER that he deletes bad reviews, blocks people who say bad about him or his shop, all to run from his reputation. If you would like to leave him a review on his latest Google Business page, you can do so here

Krystopher also sold me a vw t1 so42 in July2022 first it’s was $15000 en when I got serious image said he didn’t want to sell it anymore so I asked what he wanted and he put another $1500 on the $15000 and i agreed. I’m from the Netherlands and as he has a vw business I thought he was ok.

He asked me if I also wanted to buy a new engine that he would build and it would be his top piece of work and I would get a running Volkswagen and it would be finished within a week he said. I paid him another $3500. I paid him everything and after the payment I had to wait for over 3 months to let him get the car picked up by my chosen compagny. He was holding it away for a long time.
I also would get a mock up engine and the original engine wich was also rebuild by the previous owner. Also the hubcaps where on the pictures and he stole them from the car before sending it away.
Also he said there weren’t any windows and suddenly he had them and when I asked when the bus was finished he told me to not be pushy otherwise he would leave the windows and other stuff out.

I received the car with a not working new engine, other engines missing and no hubcaps and after threatening that I would sue him he did like his nose was bleeding and said that the engines where to heavy for the floor and that i got a nice new engine and that I should be happy for the price he asked…..

This guy is so sad.

Does Krystopher Scott really do that BAD work? It really seems like a child could do better. Is he a member of The Samba? Why doesnt he come on here and try to defend himself? In the pictures of his shop he does nothing like the work posted here. I for one would not ever go to a BUG IN again, regardless of Kristopher. He seems way under capitalized and just jumps from one speeding train to the next. It also seems that if he had done that to me, I would have taken him to court.......NO MATTER WHAT THE OUTCOME.....you owe it to your community......at least my age tells me that! I wonder, without his representing himself, is this just sour grapes? What does he say?

Mr Scott likes to post cars he has done no work on, and represents it in such a way that he did the work. Those pics are 100% his work, and the YouTube videos posted in the link are absolutely him.

The Bug Out is a money grab for him. To the point of selling the goodie bags for provided for free by sponsors.
