I am a new member here (my wife and I have a 1970 Bus that is in the process of full restoration).
I was pecking around the site and saw this thread about Bugout85 and Krystopher Scott. Thought I would add my experience with him....
My wife and I bought a Beetle from him a few years ago. Drove there, paid partial cash and partial Zelle payments to his wife, and he was supposed to send the car and title to us shortly after. Scott seemed nice and knowledgeable and I was comfortable doing business with him since he was in charge of the Volkswagens in Virginia FB page. So, my guard was low and I made a few rookie mistakes, like not looking at the title prior to paying.
He ended up mailing the title to us under his wife's name on the envelope. I believe this was intentional to keep his name off of everything to do with the
transaction. When we opened the envelope and looked at the title we noticed that it did not belong to him and was from another state. He told us to just tell DMV that the person on the title is the one selling the car....
Of course, we didn't do this. We contacted the lady on the title and she said that she had a sentimental attachment to the car (belonged to someone in her family who passed away) so she sent it to Scott to restore.
Long story short, Scott said there were so many problems with the car and talked her into selling it to him dirt cheap. She said she trusted everything he was saying because of his status of being in charge of the large Volkswagens of Virginia page on FB. He got her the same way he got me....
Turns out Scott simply sprayed the car with paint (shoddy work) and quickly flipped it to us without doing any of the work he told the lady that it needed.
Since we hadn't even received the Beetle yet we asked for our money back. He said he had already spent it on his kids, yada yada....
We ended up getting the DMV police involved for Scotts attempt to title jump the vehicle. The DMV police were very helpful in helping us get our money back from him to avoid criminal charges. The whole thing was a mess.
To sum things up....
I believe Scott knew exactly what he was doing by using his wife's Zelle account for payments and then mailing the title to us under her name. I also believe Scott uses his position as the the Admin of Volkswagens of Virginia on FB - and now BugOut - to swindle unsuspecting people.
@swhitcomb the link in your first post did not work. Can you repost or send it to me privately?

Wow.....and welcome to The Samba. Hope to see you at the Virginia Cruisers VW Show on 10/7/23 at Mountain Run Winery. If you have not been before, it is a great show in a beautiful location. _________________ '65 Sunroof Bug |

after doing some research of him and his business record;
i will not be attending any of his events.
something is very wrong.
where there is smoke there is fire, and there is plenty of smoke surrounding

Kristopher Scott is a GANGSTA........enuf said! Except that Bug Out has moved on to 87 or 88. Whatever it is, DO NOT GO, unless Less Steiger is totally involved and this Kristopher fellow is not. |

I have lost all respect for Less. It would take nothing short of a public apology for me to ever gain it back. The only way I’ll ever attend another Bug Out is if it is taken over by someone respectable. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Well, woke up to a post today. Apparently Krys didn’t pay for the trophies and the person who made them still has them. Surprise surprise. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Been a busy 24 or so hours for Mr Scott. Word came out that he stiffed the woman who made the trophies. Of course, according to his girl friends post it was everyone’s fault but his. Then Sumerduck race track announced they would no longer allow Mr Scottt to hold events at their venue. Followed by Empi announcing they do not and have not sponsored his event. Today a summons was posted. He’s about 24k behind in rent and about to be evicted from yet another shop. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Is there confirmation posted somewhere that BugOut 88 isn’t going to happen, or at least it isn’t going to happen at Sumerduck Raceway? I don’t use Facebook, so I can’t check there. There hasn’t been any update made to the BugOut website - it only shows BugOut 87 info from May of this year. |

The track itself is putting on an event, that is not at all associated with the Bug Out or its owners. I applaud them and have committed to helping them in any way possible. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Also, without going into the drama of the owner of the BugOut, in seriously doubt there will ever be a bugout again. And I can 100% confirm there will never be another at Sumerduck with the tracks current owner. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Thanks for the replies - I didn’t know that the raceway was putting on a VW show themselves, so I’ll definitely support them and attend/show at that event! |

He was evicted from his shop for not paying rent. Was there 11 months, was 11 months behind. There was a big blow up online right around the same time, as he stiffed the woman who made the trophies for the last Bug Out. Of course, he and the girlfriend posted online it wasn’t their fault, it was the woman who made them. She was smart enough not to give them to him for non payment. Then posted what happened. He was completely unprofessional and threatening in his response, so when the new owner of the track saw it, he said he was done dealing with him, and he was no longer allowed to hold events there. Krys then posted how there would be Bug Outs in both Florida, and California. Then has been pretty much radio silent since.
As it turns out, he was taking all kinds of money to work on cars, build engines, etc, and doing none of the work. In the beginning he was just doing poor work. Towards the end it was just outright theft. From what I hear, the Fredericksburg PD is working in a case against him. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

BugOut 88 was cancelled at the last minute with no explanation given. Hopefully this is the end of it. Bug invasion was great and will likely be back and hopefully even better next year. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

+1 on Bug Invasion! Even with an hour of rain during the day, the turnout was great! Fun time, and the show owners seemed passionate about making this a fantastic event for years to come. |
