Anyone know where to get one? A used one is fine. I'm just not finding them anywhere. Thanks!

it's not really a special bolt. Measure it then just get a 'hardened' one 10.9 _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 44 yrs - Plan B: '81 Rabbit Diesel LS Deluxe - Plan C: '72 Ghia

The thread is smaller then the shank, it can be drilled out for a 12mm std bolt, that is std. practice in the off road community. _________________ 73 Type 181

it's a regular old everyday 12mm-1.5 bolt. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 44 yrs - Plan B: '81 Rabbit Diesel LS Deluxe - Plan C: '72 Ghia

The bolt is not just a regular bolt… it is shouldered and specific for the job. Use a little antisieze on the threads and shoulder area to keep it from getting stuck. |

Serious blond moment. Didn't realize the sleeves were frozen on the shafts from the shocks.
Just ignore the rest of this thread...

This will get them off easy clamp the bolt in a vise, put the chisel end against the tube about mid-way. Hold the airtool at about 45° and pull the trigger

If I owned any air tools, that might work.
I'll just dremel them off. No big deal.

My bad, early king/link pin beams used stepped bolt for upper shock. Missed the date from OP _________________ 73 Type 181

I second the anti-seize! I had one shear off at the first thread. Check the thread lead-in for any burrs or sharp edges. That is a stress point. |

Ace only has 12-1.75 bolts.
Check the big boxes next...
McMaster has them. |

From the forums. I think the hack job of drilling out the shock tower and just sizing up to a 12mm bolt is what a few of you are trying to convey. The bolt in the pic is what is normally found on a link pin front end that hasn’t been modified. |

That's the earlier stepped 12mm shaft/ 10mm thread. The 63-65 was a straight 12mm.
I could retap the hole but it's easier to just get the bolt. Can order them now that I got the website leads.

Other thread pitches are typically in the small drawers at Ace. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
