I'm posting here rather than the split forum as I think there are probably more ovals actively being worked on. My car has pretty banged up front and rear seal channels. It's been pushed down in spots, and I had to pry it up in places to extract the petrified remains of the old seal. But I think it's savable, so before sending it out to the paint shop I was going to try and straighten it out some. Ideally I'd machine a little form that could be slipped in and tap the channel down while I moved the form along. Ideally I end up with the channel open enough that I don't have to play with it more after the car is painted, but not open too far. But what is that magic number?
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance, and happy Thanksgiving!

You could get a length of seal channel from Wolfsburg West for $10 and use it to try different widths.

It is probably delivered already open to the correct width, so you could just measure that.

Eh, I have a ton of gratitude to Wolfsburg West for supporting these old cars. I also have enough experience with them to know that the quality of their sheet metal bits is all over the map. Assuming it's probably correct means it won't be. I ended up buying all the pieces from Virtanen

Mika's products have never disappointed me. And glad I removed it, look at the rust that was hidden underneath
