I have a Fleetline Kombi with the 8 wire indicator/high beam switch. It’s very reluctant to latch in one direction and does not cancel that often.

I have cleaned with switch contact cleaner and it’s a little better. But still find it very frustrating that it does not work so I thought I’d purchase a replacement.

I’m now on my third after sending the other two back. All of them have had a different feel and operation to each other. More to the point none of them work!

They all latch in both positions but none of them cancel reliably and often not in one direction at all. Although the cancel ring could be an issue all of these behave the same off the bus when triggering / cancelling by hand.

They are all made by Forst even though the last one was meant to be from WW

Are there any quality replacements out there? Or do I try and find a second hand one to repair

Hi Gary.

Can’t comment on the problem but if you’re after an original unit in the UK then try Desi Yates (have a look on the ssvc club site on Facebook for contact details). If you’re after a WW unit try Schofields - they’re out of stock at the mo, but they may let you pre order....they’re the cheapest by far. Other than that Autocraft seem to have WW in stock, but £65 more than Schofields. Cancel ring is only £10ish, so may be a cheaper fix if you think that may be the issue. Good luck. Pete

Cheers Pete,

I'd love it to be the cancel ring but as I say none of the Forst ones work properly when triggered by hand. The original one does. I have also tried one of the replacements on the bus and it works the same as it does off. Thats to say latches and cancels in one direction only.

So far I have purchased the first one from Autocraft, the second from Heritage parts and the last from CoolAir

The Autocraft one says it from WW but it was from Forst and it you look at the picture you can see that to as the Forst ones come with the black knob on the end.

Decided to take a look at the Forst mech, only issue is that I have not had a good look at an original for reference.

At first glance it just looks like a poor copy to me. Where the PCB is rivited to the mech the mech end looks all squeezed making operation tight.

On the other side the folded metal has folded back on itself too much which puts the mech at an angle when mounted in the switch body and seems to push the PCB back too far.

I have great luck using LPS1 on original switches.

Hi Gary. I remembered this old thread about turn signal switches. Cancellation issues seem to be a common thing with aftermarket switches.

Turns out the stalk on my bus is also a retro. So I ventured to pull it apart, clean and reassemble and….

It now works. Not sure how long it will hold up, we will see.

As for the strip down in the end I only stripped down to the PCB. To get further there small rivets which I could see would be a pain to get back together. I totally degreased the mech and did not re-lube. Tightened up the rivets.I used solder blobs on the PCB rivets to put it all back together.
