Some recent MODs. Back up camera radio with touch screen. DVD. Blue LEDS for the dash and push button start. Radio on 1 push, Push and hold with foot on brake for engine start. Need the key fob with you or system is disabled. Also runs the door locks.

Nice job!

I’ve no desire for more technology but it is good to see that it can be done.

Makes it hard to hotwire. Nice antitheft deterrent.

My bus is standard. No power windows, door locks. Found aftermarket regulator adapters for the window cranks and door lock actuators. Combined with the push button start I have a aux power setting for the radio(1 push on the button), Keyfob door locks and remote start. No keyfob present then the ignition system gets no power.
My cure for anti-theft. Plus I like modern shit.

a lesser man or woman might've just pulled the round multi-plug off the ignition switch and wired all the fancy hoo hah stuff with male spades to the female terminals that i can just yank out, put my handy Vanagon ignition switch in place and Vrrrooom off i go! but you dint do that i'm sure!

having kept a radio station on the bleeding edge of technology for 17 years, where everything has an IP address and speaks MIBS and OIDS and SNMP (oh my!) i've come to appreciate honest-to-god relays and contacts i can get angry at and show them my wrath to smote them.

Ain't that the truth! I've lost count of the number of relays now rattling about in our van. Note to self - label the last few that went in...

The ignition wires on the column have disappeared. Stashed deep in the front behind the fresh air box. Back up override prolly a good idea in case of power fail.

So the key is needed to release the steering lock and the key fob/starter button take care of starting duties?

Hmmm, there's something to that.

As always, neato stuff coming out of your garage.

a quick jumper from the parking light circuit (plate light works fine) jumped to a keyed ignition circuit and bob's your uncle. screwdriver across the starter and you're gone

simply backfeed and 15 circuit and the car comes to life.

A post on how to protect your ride.
Mr Helper posts a HOW TO JUMP.
WTF?
Not on my H6 system. 1 push powers=radio, dash USB, windows for 45 seconds.
push and hold 2=dash and ignition/then starter.
With the H6 the fuel pump will prime like a standard VGon.

l've been thinking about using a start button attached to a horn, so it someone does make their way in, they'll see a start button, perhaps they'll press it, and let everyone know what they are up to.

yes, maybe, my neighbours all know me and my vans, they'd spot something iffy very quickly, also l know the sound of the horns in all 4 of my vanagons, they are all a little different.
if l heard one of my horns go off, l'd pretty quickly realize it wasn't me pushing the button.

My stock wiring keeps frying my stereo. I'd hate to have this, and it all fries too.

What are you using for the push button start? Is that a feature of the DVD/Radio or does the push button start have its own separate controller? Does the same FOB also control your power door locks? I have my dash out now and would love to add the convenience of push button start.

Hey Captain Pike, you didn't tell us what is controlling the push button start mechanism. Is that a feature of the DVD/Radio you installed or does the push button start have its own separate controller? what is the model of the stereo or controller unit? I need to know who to send more $$$ so I can have this cool convenience in my van Laughing
