I found this Afm connector with this wire pulled out of the plug and the others are brittle. Would this make the van run like crap? Also where about a could I buy a good engine harness or individual plugs like the AFM plug? Thanks in advance

Search the Classifieds on The Samba for parts. Search the Forum for specific words. "Title Only' simplifies your search. _________________ '84 GL 1.9

Someone has been in there before. Those little orange boots are not stock for that connector. You dont need a new plastic connector as long as it isnt cracked or damaged. You need to re-pin those wires. Here is a link for instructions on how to do that. The pins you need are part number: A107135CT-ND

It might be a vanagon syndrome harness that someone made that plugs in between the air flow sensor and the stock harness. I can’t tell from your picture. _________________ ☮️ |

I agree, there is a hint of another portion of the connection toward the top of the photo which almost suggests that the connector with the strange orange boots and loose wire is hooked to another plug. If that is the case, and you have a segment of the harness that can be removed, try removing that and plug the connector that is not the 'Jumper' directly to the AFM. Then, if indeed that is a 'home built VANAGON Syndrome' harness, you can either find a real one, or do the AFM hack with a tantalum capacitor.
