I tend to install both turn and wiper switch together as a unit. The turn switch lays on top of the wiper and "nests" together with the 4 spacers. Both wire trays clip together as well. The entire unit the slips over the steering shaft. You can also have the long mounting screws in just as long as you remember not to invert the assembly. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

Been through this a couple of times and I agree the aftermarket Chinese replacement for this part is not worth the cost savings. I tried the Beck-Arnley replacement and it lasted about a month.
As for reassembly, the wiper switch goes on the column first followed by the turn signal switch otherwise the horn contact is not against the ring on the steering wheel. _________________ '74 Thing

I do not see the part number on the wiper headlight switch to see if it is type 1, 2 3 or 4.
Does anyone know the part number and weather it is Thing only?
ALSO, Does anyone have the schematic for how the 2 switches lay together and assembled? |
I assume you have a 73 or later, 72 and earlier use a different part.
your part number, 73 and later, 113 953 503 BE _________________ 1972 VW 181 SAFARI 1500 cc GRB Trans-axle |

The Parts book call out P/N 111953513F and that's what The Thing Shop sells. Just be wary of the cheap Chinese crap. Stick with the Meyle or SWF brands. Your old one may have 2 horn wiper contacts, the new one may have only 1.
