Hi, Thanks. Start off in second and drive tru the gears like normal. Split box with reduction boxes. Lots of fun. Old school EV. USA advanced DC motor. 144 volt battery plug and play. Real happy with it

Can you explain to me how you kept the clutch in the EV conversion? That is something I haven’t been able to visualize.

Hi. Its easy as. Make up a adaptor plate that bolts to gearbox and your motor. A boss that fits on to the motor that allows your flywheel to be bolted to it. I got a cheap flywheel with a removal ring gear. Bolted up a clutch like normal. You can buy the plate and boss very cheap on line.

Hi, I own a body shop here in New Zealand and after hours I rebuilt it and found a second hand EV motor and equipment that seemed like a fun thing to try. Being a old design its was very simple to set up.

Hi. First off, like your truck. We were doing them at the same time and I am now starting on a 67 westie.
The EV project was cheap to start, I got a unfinished project. A ford laser with the ev motor and electrics fitted by the bloke ten years ago . It was all new then. I paid 2000 NZ dollars for the car and ev stuff. The car was in real nice condition and was able to sell it for 1500 NZ dollars. The battery was purchased on Alibaba. I was shocked how easy it was and how helpful they were to make up the battery to suit my USA Advanced motor. That was was the expensive part with shipping cost around 8000 NZ dollars. Somehow it got tru with very little import tax. Unsure about that.
Made up the mounting plates and worked tru the wiring in a week or so after work. Very simple as its like a 80s style EV .
The battery is lithium iron phosphate 200 ah 28 kw. When fully charged it is reading 168 volts. I am at 100 miles so far and are at 144 volts. I think 132 volts is my low level.
Its all stock the truck so speed is not wanted. Its just something a bit different.
In NZ the tuck requires a body cert for all the rust repairs and a mod and electrical cert. All done by different people clipping the ticket on the way. I think thats going to run into the 2000 NZ dollar mark.
Driving on a dealer plate at the moment for road testing. Have had issues with stopping( leaks from wheel slaves) and rear axle leaks.

Hi Riomotor

Another kiwi here, I have just started the conversion on my 61 DC, so its been a steep learning curve currently on the EV side.

Where about in NZ are you based?

Hi, I am in New Plymouth, Taranaki. Going out in the truck today for few more issues. Not with the electrics yet, more with noises that comes from everywhere.
Maybe its just missing motor noise to hide all the other noises.

Those are the lightest. What is the total weight of the battery pack?

Hi
No more than 180 kg. Hardly made it drop. It's on a pull out table I made up .the motor may be a little light. May make up a compensator to stop wheel tuck. Away down at Queenstown for Christmas holidays. Happy new year for 23 guys.
