i just got my 74 thing running, im building a new motor for it now and want to put a single weber idf w/3" air cleaner into it, looking at the engine compartment the boxed section that runs across the top looks like it might give me some trouble? anybody have or had this setup in their thing? does it fit, or am i going to have to go with duals? _________________ 65 21 window

I've enver done it, but my gut tells me that a single IDF won't fit, unless you run a real low-profile air cleaner. that be a TALL carb. In any event, i'm not a big fan of single 2 barrels- tuning and fuel suspension become issues. _________________ OG JHC

yea im going to see if it will fit anyway, the 1600cc with the engle 100
cam worked great in my class 11 bug and would like to put the same setup in the thing, unless i was WFO the dual IDFs loaded up at slower uphill speeds, puting the single IDF worked out great, so i may have to fab an air box to work for the 181, if again it clears the box thing across the top of the engine compartment _________________ 65 21 window

I see we are reviving an old thread. I just saw an intake manifold that may help. CB Preformance makes a low profile intake for this problem. I haven't seen one installed on a 181 but its worth looking at the web site or even a email or phone call to them to see what they think. _________________ Cool runnins,

If you really want the IDF to fit, check out our Sick Thing set up on Samba gallery. We cut throught he back shelf to hook the air cleaner outside the engine compartment. That set up would allow any single carb set up you can dream about or come up with. K-mann |
