1973 Bus with crap aftermarket dual carbs:
Unknown miles, lost cylinder #3 < 60 psi
"Inspector Otto" was protected with tape, then lightly blotted with thinned Rustoleum white.
All edges were smoothed with a razor blade. Parting line surface was raked with a brand new razor blade as well to get rid of prior nicks. Seal bores were countersunk with a razor blade before case was split. #2 saddle looked very good.
These lifters wore out very nicely, none of that Febi flaking. Insert shows correct convex.
Two coats only of Rustoleum 500* engine enamel.
Rings were installed with my fingers. Don't even bother to install the pistons from the top if you have AA cylinders ... there is no longer a chamfer at the top. You will likely break rings if you try.
400 grit sandcloth cleaned up the journals nicely. A rifle cleaning kit took care of the cross drillings.
Rods have been balanced to within 1/2 gram overall, and 2/10ths at the big end.
Factory dual carbs and a DVDA Bosch distributor will be returned to this engine.
