I am not too experienced in decoding transmission numbers; but by looking in this chart it might have been made about March 1958.

Sure does have some odd spring plates, never seen anything like those.

Feb 58. Never have been sure what the last row of #s is on the reference listing

It's called a "Split-case" transmission.

March, 1958 since the "Rear Axle" numbers in the VIN charts are the last one for the month.

0182 I don't know, probably just some production # used at the factory.

Weird spring plates, maybe came out of a Buggy or some home-made vehicle?

It’s an Aussie VW going by the poster’s address.

Not sure if the transmission numbers are necessarily going to be the correct date for Australian VW’s but most likely close.

The Australian factory was in the transition from going from full CKD manufacture to full local manufacture around the late 50’s. However the spring plates do look home made.

No, those spring plates are not off of a Ghia of any vintage, those would the same as any Beetle.
Don't look like any Type II I've ever seen either but I'm no expert by any means.

The odd part I see about them is the big hole and four bolt holes where they attach to the torsion bars.

There is of course a fair chance someone in the distant past may have modified some sort of VW SP's, stranger things have happened.
Do those holes look hand made or appear good enough to have been factory produced?
